Aad Goudappel delivers simple, but powerful illustrations to us from his home and studio in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). Aad graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam with additional studies at Camberwell College of Art in London and the Art Institute in Boston.
Although at first glance his illustrations seem quite simple, they translate complex ideas and abstract themes into clear, powerful imagery. His distinctive style is characterized by the use of flat areas of color and the complete absence of line. His mildly alienating images often contain multiple intellectual or emotional layers that make the work both timeless and contemporary.
Aad's cutting edge work has been honored with numerous awards, including: Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, 3x3, ProShow, Communication Arts, Applied Arts, ADC Germany, Eurobest, Fresh, Children's Illustration, SILA, CMYK 54, Red Dot and Creative Quarterly, amongst others.
Some of his clients include: Brandweer, City of Rotterdam, Consumer Reports, Fortune, Golf Digest, Harvard Business Review, Health, Heijmans, Herman Miller, Jeugd en Co., Men's Health, More, Nautilus, Reader's Digest, Toshiba, The Wall Street Journal and WIRED.
